Randall Melby

Randall
Melby is a partner in the
Law Firm of Melby & Anderson LLP. He is admitted to practice law
before all Courts in the State of
California and the Central District of the U.S. District Court for the
State of
California. He has practiced law at Melby & Anderson
LLP for his entire legal career, after graduating from California
Western School of Law, San Diego, California in 1977, and passing the
state bar examination that same year.
Randall Melby was born and raised in the City of Glendale; and had the
privilege of practicing law with his father, Henry Melby, until Henry's
death in 1997.
During his career at Melby & Anderson LLP, Randall has served in
the following professional and community organizations:
Glendale Bar Association Board of Trustees (President 1987 - 1988);
Glendale Association For the Retarded Board of Directors; Glendale
Community Foundation (now named Community Foundation of the
Verdugos) Board of Trustees (President 1994 and 1995); Glendale
Foundation For the Retarded Board of Directors (currently on Board,
President 2000 and 2001); YMCA of Glendale Board of Directors
(currently
on Board, Chairman of Board 1997 and 1998).
Randall Melby has had the honor of being nominated for Glendale
NewsPress 1995 "Man of the Year" for service to local non-profit
organizations. He was selected by the Glendale NewsPress
readership as "Best Attorney" for 2008.
In addition to his membership in the California State Bar Association,
he belongs to the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Trust and
Estate sections of both the Los Angeles County Bar and California State
Bar; and the Glendale Bar Association.
Randall Melby's practice focuses on the preparation of all types of
estate planning documents; post mortem trust and estate administration;
probate court proceedings; and estate and gift tax return
preparation. In his estate and succession planning practice he
emphasizes the elimination of the need for judically supervised probate
court proceedings through the preparation and use of "integrated"
planning documentation (i.e., all forms of trusts, powers of attorney,
advance directives, etc.), including asset transfer documentation and
consultation, to implement the same, for individuals, husbands and
wives, and domestic partners.
Despite his overall practice emphasis on avoiding court involvement for
individual and family wealth administration and succession, when
the need has arisen, he has represented many clients in their
capacities as fiduciaries, beneficiaries, or interested parties in
probate court proceedings in most California counties. In
addition to individual client representation in court supervised
probate proceedings, he has also represented institutional
fiduciaries (i.e., Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, Northern
Trust
and United California Bank), and private professional
fiduciaries.
